Passiflora dolorosa: A New Species of Passiflora supersect. Distephana (Passifloraceae) in Roraima, Brazil
Abstract
A new species of Passiflora L. (Passifloraceae s. str.), P. dolorosa A. M. L. Medeiros & Mezzonato, belonging to Passiflora supersect. Distephana (Juss. ex DC.) Feuillet & J. M. MacDougal, is described from Roraima, Brazil. This species is distinguished by vegetative organs with a puberulous indumentum, sinuate leaf margins, lenticular glands at the base of each sinus on the abaxial leaf surface, linear bracts, a campanulate floral tube, and outermost corona filaments that are free to the base. Detailed morphological description, photographic plates, habitat, phenology, and a comparison with closely related species are provided.
