Abstract

During the review of Polygonaceae specimens for the Flora de Veracruz project, taxonomic novelties were recognized within the genera Persicaria (L.) Mill. and Ruprechtia C. A. Mey. In this article, P. castilloi J. J. Ancona & J. J. Ortiz-Diaz, P. palmae J. J. Ancona & J. J. Ortiz-Diaz, P. veracruzana J. J. Ancona & J. J. Ortiz-Diaz, and R. tunii J. J. Ancona & J. J. Ortiz-Diaz are described and illustrated as new species endemic to Veracruz, Mexico. Persicaria pringlei (Small) J. J. Ancona & J. J. Ortiz-Diaz is a new combination for Polygonum pringlei Small, an endemic species known from San Luis Potosí and Veracruz, Mexico. Dichotomous keys for the species of Persicaria and Ruprechtia present in Veracruz are included, as well as distributional maps of the new species.
