Abstract

A nomenclatural update for eight species of Paspalum L. group Caespitosa is here presented. This informal group presently comprises 16 species distributed from the southern United States to northern Argentina. Its species are characterized by having a caespitose habit, culms simple, and spikelets mostly ellipsoid. We analyzed the protologues of all taxa studied, as well as their respective type specimens housed in 20 herbaria. As a result, we propose lectotypes for the names P. acutissimum Mez, P. blodgettii Chapm., P. caespitosum Flüggé, P. chacoense Parodi, P. divergens Döll, P. simile Mez, P. stramineum Ekman, a second-step lectotype (P. simpsonii Nash), and two comments on previous lectotypifications (P. albidulum Henrard and P. portoricense Nash).
